Ingrid watched General Conference for the first time this weekend. (Well, tiny bits and pieces of it anyways.) And for the first time, I felt like I could apply the talks about parenting to my life.
Something simple that really hit me from this conference: "The most common way for God to answer our prayers is through other people."
I would like to be one of those people, wouldn't you?
We had a tradition for several consecutive conferences of going up to my folks' house to watch it. They would still like for us to come, but I feel bad going! Our kids talk, play, make demands, want to do other things--so much that's it's nearly impossible to get anything out of it. My parents smile at the kids and all their craziness, and help meet their needs, but I know they would get infinitely more out of conference if we weren't there. This session was slightly better as Lucy slept through the afternoon session, but I was still reading books to Sam during chunks. Good thing it's available all year long... Hope you caught more than us!
ReplyDeleteWell, my parents are just upstairs, so it was just easy to go up and watch. Ingrid wasn't all too distracting because she happened to be good at taking naps last weekend, and when she was awake, she's still young enough to be able to sit quietly on your lap (with a little entertainment). I wouldn't be surprised if she's walking by the time conference rolls around again, though. That'll be a whole different story.
