Last night, I pulled a coughing and whimpering toddler out of her crib and into my bed. We curled up next to each other and slept until morning.
I couldn’t believe it. I know it sounds like a natural thing to happen between a mama and her little one, but in this household, it’s a near-miracle. Ever since Ingrid was about 3 months old, she hasn’t been able to sleep within sight of anyone else. She simply gets too distracted. But last night, I suppose her exhaustion and longing for comfort won out. I didn’t sleep nearly as well as I normally do — with her little arms and legs draped over mine — but I didn’t mind. I loved it, actually.
I’m curious — for those of you with kids — do they ever sleep in your bed with you? Can they fall asleep in your arms, sprawled out on the couch, on an airplane? Or do they require a very specific environment to drift off?
Photo: Kirk and Ingrid taking a nap together when she was only 6 days old. So sweet, it kills me every time I look at it.
