First Time at the Beach

This post originally ran on Hither & Thither.

Growing up just minutes from the Pacific, the ocean was a normal part of life for me. I learned to swim before I learned to walk. Although I've lived in a land-locked state for years now, and have no intention of moving back to the coast, Kirk and I still try to make it back for a visit as often as we can. So last week, when we loaded everything up in the car to visit to our family in California, we took it for granted that Ingrid would fall in love with the beach. We imagined her bouncing up and down with excitement at the sight of the waves. Instead, the skeptical look on her face grew into a frown, then suddenly turned into tears as the water swished around her ankles. For the remainder of the outing, she wouldn't let us set her down or even touch her feet to the sand. The following day, we opted to visit the aquarium instead of returning to the beach. She loved it.

Even as a baby, Ingrid already has such strong opinions. I've found that (surprise!) my favorite things aren't always her favorite things. And you know what? I'm okay with that. I think. :)

California Cousins

Ingrid took her first road trip this summer to visit Sam, Lucy, Jenn, and Kris in La Jolla. She did a great job traveling and loved hanging out with her cousins.

p.s. Sorry for the blurry photos.

Lisa's BBQ

My aunt Lisa had a birthday recently and my uncle Peter threw a family barbeque for her. The weather was great, and Peter is a chef, so the food was amazing. Somehow I missed out on snapping a pic of the birthday girl, but at least I managed these.

I love summer barbeques, don't you?

Friends

Our good friends Chelsea and Grant had a little girl named Blythe just 3 weeks before we had Ingrid. A few weeks ago, Chelsea and Blythe came to town for a brief visit. It was so great to see them! This was the first time the two little ladies met. That's their friend Sullivan (son of our friends Kristin and Craig) in the middle. None of us could believe how obediently the three of them sat lined up in a row while we snapped photos. (Although you can probably tell that Ingrid was a wiggle worm, as usual.)

The Park

When I was a kid, those two words were magical. I had names for them all: Splinter Park, Bubble Park, Rocket Ship Park, etc...

I snapped these pics a few weeks back when we were hanging out with the Jorgies at this great park in Orem. I don't know the real name, so I'll just call it Pony Park until Ingrid comes up with a name herself.

What A Face

Ingrid has quite the stubborn streak. I wonder where she got it? :)
