Granny's Quilt for Ingrid

note ///// I wrote this post for my other blog, but thought that I would like it documented here, too. If you already saw it, sorry about that! Just skip ahead to the next post... And as a warning, I might be doing this from time to time...

I've been pretty lazy when it comes to taking photos of Ingrid's handmade gifts. It's just that I've been spending most of my photographing energy on capturing the little lady herself! But I've decided I need to make amends. Friends and family have been kind enough to make her some lovely things, and they deserve to be shown off!

As soon as she found out I was pregnant, my granny offered to sew our baby a quilt. She told me to pick out a pattern and some fabric. It didn't take me long to decide on a tumbling block design. I love how it's very traditional but seems modern at the same time. We took a trip over to the local quilt shop, and came back with these sweet little repro patterned fabrics.

I love how it turned out! Can you believe that my granny sewed each and every one of those diamonds together by hand?! And she came up with that lovely triangle border as a surprise. It adds the perfect finishing touch, don't you think? Another great thing about this quilt is that it's quite big. Right now, I have it hanging from the crib as a decoration, and when Ingrid plays on the floor, I spread it out underneath her. Later on, when she transitions out of her crib, it'll make such a pretty covering for her bed. And when my little girl is grown, she'll love having something that her great-grandmother made especially for her.

I hope you don't mind me sharing more of Ingrid's handmade gifts with you... stay tuned for another beautiful quilt!

Daddy's Girl

Ingrid adores her daddy, and the feeling is mutual. Nothing has ever made me happier.

Laughing?

Remember how I said that Ingrid doesn't laugh? Well, this past week, she started to just a little bit. It's not really a belly laugh, but more of a big smile accompanied by a low giggle. I love it!

Drinking From a Cup

I was drinking some water the other day, and noticed that Ingrid looked really interested. I held the cup to her lips just to see what she would do. Well, she just went ahead and tried to drink! A couple of days later, when my mom was helping give her a bath, Ingrid dove for the mug my mom was using to rinse her off with. She won't take the bottle anymore, but maybe I could leave her with a sitter (aka one of her grandmothers) if she'd drink breast milk from a cup instead!?

Babies make anything look cute. Even double chins.

Socks courtesy of Ben & Kate. Outfit (including handknit hat) courtesy of Grandma & Grandpa Jorgensen

It's so true. Things like big heads, double chins, thigh rolls, muffin tops, dimpled hands and elbows...

p.s. Someone told me that they have tried many times to leave a comment and are unable to. Is this happening to anyone else? If it is, and you can't leave a comment on this post to let me know, would you mind emailing me? (evajorgensen(at)gmail(dot)com) I'd really like to get to the bottom of this. Thanks!

Poor Thing

Ingrid's allergic to something, and we're not quite sure what! We keep finding little welts on her body and face. They go away after about half an hour and then often re-appear in a different location. It could be a new detergent, lotion, or the fact that I ate lobster ravioli (shellfish allergy?) last week. Who knows... we're just trying to get rid of everything that it could possibly be so she can work this thing out of her system.

p.s. When I took the above photo she was just laying still for quite a while, sucking her thumb and staring at her daddy. So sweet.

Her First Conference

Ingrid watched General Conference for the first time this weekend. (Well, tiny bits and pieces of it anyways.) And for the first time, I felt like I could apply the talks about parenting to my life.

Something simple that really hit me from this conference: "The most common way for God to answer our prayers is through other people."

I would like to be one of those people, wouldn't you?

The Hot List

Dress courtesy of Grandma & Grandpa Jorgensen

Ingrid, like most babies, is always becoming interested in new tricks, toys, sounds, etc... But she's a fickle one. What's "hot" in her book one week, by the next week could very well be "not".

Since this is my version of a baby journal, I think I'll try and keep track of things like that here. (Like most of this blog, this is probably only interesting to Ingrid's parents & grandparents... and maybe a few aunts & uncles. Ha ha.) Here it goes...

///// The Hot List /////

+ growling & grunting (Sometimes it sounds like she's in pain or going poo. She's not.)

+ putting one hand behind her thigh to help her legs up high into the air, then grabbing her feet with the other hand

+ trying to roll from her back to her tummy

+ "swimming" in the bathtub

+ trying to grab the electrical outlet while getting a diaper change

+ having crazy blowout diapers

+ bouncing around like crazy when you hold her

+ sitting up, in a wobbly way

p.s. That's Ingrid with her aunt Lisa hamming for the camera. They're both good at that. :)

Come Monday

Striped outfit courtesy of Grandma & Grandpa Jorgensen

Ingrid continues to have fun with Grandma Jorgensen every Monday. They talk and read, play and exercise. Grandma J even demonstrates important skills like rolling over for Ingrid to observe and learn from.

The Critic

Exersaucer courtesy of the Fords

Have I mentioned on here that Ingrid doesn't laugh? It's funny, because her little face is so expressive in every other way. Apparently I didn't laugh until Caroline came along and taught me. (I was 2!). Kirk & Kari say she doesn't laugh because we're just not funny enough. Guess we better work on our stand up routine...

Ingrid Sits Up

About a week ago, Ingrid decided she could sit unassisted.  We're still only trusting her to soft surfaces, but she's managed to stay upright for 2-3 minutes in a row. Somehow it makes her look so different!

Little Miss Fox

Here's Ingrid in the fox hooded towel that her Grandma Jorgensen made for her. So cute!

4 Months Old

Snowsuit courtesy of the Carruths

Head Circumference: 43 cm (90%)
Length: 24 inches (50%)
Weight: 14 pounds 3.5 ounces (50-75%)

We took Ingrid to see Dr. Nguyen (her pediatrician) for her 4 month checkup last week. Everything looks great! She's growing and learning really well. It's such a relief not to have to worry about her weight anymore. (More about that later...)

Sunday Dinner

Ingrid with Granny

Ingrid made a brief appearance at Sunday dinner. She wore the yellow dress that my mom was blessed in.  (My aunt Lisa, my sister Caroline, and I all wore this dress as babies, too.) When the clock struck 6 o'clock, this little princess had to disappear for the night.  She was sad she had to miss out on the fun upstairs, and tried to have us come and retrieve her a couple of times.
